It’s going to be a gorgeous First Friday of May on the 7th, even if the weather doesn’t cooperate! The Center of the Universe will be filled with art, music and dance, encouraging movement, curiosity and safety for the lovers of art as well as the performers. This is the Fremont Fringe, and the First Friday Art Walk, all going on for one night!
From 6p – 9p, the Art Walk will encourage entry into the Down Under Gallery, to explore art by several local artists. For May, the Down Under is featuring a show, called ‘Far-Flung Folklore’, by Eric Chan. These ink-line, oil paintings of figures are on reclaimed wood, with the imperfections incorporated into the complex compositions. With a canopy in the garden surrounding it, for gated entry to the gallery and plenty of social distancing space, the Down Under is ideal for a stop before or after exploring…
Fremont Fringe, from 6:30p to 8p, invites performers to sprawl around Fremont, occupying vacant or otherwise empty storefronts and doorways, allowing them to perform at a safe distance from one another and their audiences – who are encouraged to flow around the neighborhood, maintaining a preventative space from others.
VAM Studios, the producers of Fremont Fringe, maintain a list of the participating performers and their locations, on the webpage (click here,) and the Facebook page (click here.)
One performer, at the Statue of Lenin starting at 6p, is the band Return of DeadGrass. It’ll be possible to enjoy the music, and even sing/dance, from across the street – at one of the five corners surrounding Red Triangle. Stroll by, or stand and celebrate the Spring, with the Return of DeadGrass during the Fremont Fringe.
This FREE evening of entertainment and art is a community-wide celebration of our artists and their gorgeous generosity of sharing their talent. Learn more about the Fremont Fringe on the webpage, and with a delightful video on YouTube (click here.) Then, take steps towards a socially-distanced, COVID safe exhibition of talent and training on the evening of May 7th at the Center of the Universe!
