On Monday, April 6th, at 6:30p, at the Fremont Branch of the Seattle Public Library (SPL,) the public can enjoy a free presentation of live poetry, read by the poets, with a question-and-answer session to follow.  This comes in conjunction with National Poetry Month, being celebrated at several branches of the SPL.

In April, in observance of Poetry Month, the SPL will have open mics and readings at several branches.  On April 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th, at the Central Branch, starting at noon, will be a poetry appreciation group presented by the Washington Center for the Book.  On April 9th, at the Ballard Branch, at 6p, will be the ‘It’s About Time’ Writers’ Reading series with authors and open mics, and on April 16th, at 6:30p, the Ballard Branch will host a poetry potluck where attendees can gather to listen to and read poetry aloud.  On April 11th, at the Green Lake Branch, at 4p, the monthly open mic for poetry and prose will feature readings by Mary Crane, Laura LeHew and Roy Seitz.  On April 20th, at the University Branch, at 6:30p, the monthly book group will discuss poetry, available for review by checking out a packet at the library in advance.

On April 6th, the Fremont Branch welcomes three published poets – Dennis Caswell, Michael Schmeltzer and Jennifer Bullis – who will read from their work.  This evenings’ reading is great for those new to poetry and those looking for a fix in a favorite medium.  Listen to the poetry, and then talk with the poets about their medium and their inspirations.
