On Monday, August 24th at 7p, the Fremont Neighborhood Council (FNC) will hold its August meeting via Zoom. In the interest of protecting the safety of Board Members, the FNC has chosen to hold its meetings on-line during the COVID-19 pandemic – which allows the public to attend and engage, safely as well.
During this meeting, Seattle Police Department (SPD) Community Police Team (CPT) Officer Nicholas Boys will talk about public safety in Fremont. The CPT focus on long-term, chronic problems outside the bounds of regular patrol work and emergency calls. In the past, the Fremont neighborhood has partnered with the SPD, and the City Attorney’s Office, to address public safety issues. With the recent rise in crime in our neighborhood (and the City,) the FNC wants to hold a discussion about public safety – and a way Fremont residents can address current issues effectively.
There will also be a presentation by Friends of Upper Fremont, a neighborhood group that filed an appeal of a Seattle Department of Construction & Inspections decision on a 32-unit micro-housing project at 3959 Fremont Ave N. The Friends of Upper Fremont will provide the FNC with an update on the project, and the appeal. Find out more about the Friends on their official website (click here.)
Finally, the FNC will discuss preparations for the Annual General Meeting. Traditionally, this meeting – and elections of the FNC Board – takes place in April, but it had to be postponed until Monday, September 21st. Two speakers have been scheduled:
- Seattle City Attorney Megan Westphal, Liaison for the North Precinct
- Seattle City Councilmember Alex Pedersen, for District #4 (East Fremont)
The meeting will also include the elections, and there are still seats available on the Board. According to the By-Laws, Board Members must be members in good standing and have attended two meetings – and these on-line meetings do count.
