Friends of Troll’s Knoll Hosts Work Party, & New Art

Can you come lend a (grubby) willing hand?

On Sunday, May 30th from 9a – Noon (over Memorial Day weekend,) the Friends of the Troll’s Knoll will host a Work Party – and they could use some willing hands.  The Troll’s Knoll surrounds one of Seattle’s most popular icons, and Fremont’s favorite curmudgeon, and it requires a lot of upkeep to keep this park viable.

Help care for this urban forest by planting donated flowers, spreading mulch around three newly planted cherry trees, and re-mulching the foot path.  Volunteers will get their hands dirty, and they need to bring their own gardening gloves and water bottle.  Volunteers are also asked to BYOT – Bring Your Own Tools, particularly shovels and wheelbarrows.

Regular visitors to Troll’s Knoll may have noticed a recent clean up on the east side.  Big THANKS to the Seattle Department of Transportation Urban Forestry crew a recent work visit – mowing and landscaping the area.  Hopefully visitors and volunteers can further this great work!

For those who cannot get by very often, the Troll’s Knoll has a new piece of art – in addition to the ginormous ferro-concrete Troll lurking beneath the Aurora Bridge.  For Earth Day 2021, the Friends of the Troll’s Knoll dedicated a Moss Turtle sculpture, created by Michiko Tanaka at Mach 2 Arts.  The sculpture is located on the east Troll’s Knoll and is intended to be interactive – bring water to sprinkle upon the turtle, and a painted stone to contribute to the pathway!
