This year, 2014, Solid Ground celebrates its 40th Anniversary (and forty years of fighting to end poverty) with a very special keynote speaker – filmmaker Spike Lee – featured at its fundraising luncheon. The luncheon takes place at The Westin, 1900 – 5th Ave, on Friday, April 4th from Noon – 1:30p.
With a body of work that spans four decades, Lee has written, produced, directed and acted in countless films that illuminate the impacts of racism in our country. Outspoken, Lee talks candidly, and with authority, about the issues of racism. As an organization working to undo racism and other oppressions that are root causes of poverty, Solid Ground is pleased to bring such an influential speaker into the conversation about race and social justice.
This year’s luncheon will celebrate 40+ years of building community to end poverty, and highlight the innovation, partnerships and actions that have created many effective anti-poverty programs. Begun in a storefront in 1974 as the Fremont Public Association, this organization has a history of tremendous growth, and pride in the thousands of people it has lifted out of poverty and/or homelessness.
Come share in stories of leadership and courage, and plans for the future of Solid Ground! Sign up to attend the luncheon through the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, at 206/632-1500 or director@fremont.com, or directly through Solid Ground and Megan Locatelli at 206/694-6862 or lunch@solid-ground.org
