On Wednesday, September 21st, the Fremont Arts Council (FAC) will host its annual Luminata Lantern Walk at Green Lake. This free, creative, community event lights up the darkness of the autumnal equinox. The FAC welcomes everyone to bring along their lanterns, or make some at workshops held in September at the FAC Powerhouse.
The non-profit community art organization also supports the development of unique and original illuminated art to be incorporated to Luminata. Inspirational, stand-alone art installations or illuminated performances are being sought by FAC organizers for use during this year’s Lantern Walk.
The FAC has a Luminata Art Grant fund to give awards from $100 to $500 per project, to cover artist fees, materials & supplies, equipment purchase or rental, and/or transportation. These grants are available for existing art as well as original pieces and performances. Special consideration for grants will be given to:
- first-time FAC grant applicants
- innovative use of lighting/illumination technology
- pieces created/rehearsed at the Powerhouse art studio
- artists teaching techniques at Powerhouse public workshops
- use of repurposed materials
- incorporation of kinetic movement
- collaboration and cross-disciplinary partnerships (i.e. dance & visual arts)
Interested artists need to apply by Friday, September 9th at midnight. The selection committee will review applications and identify award winners by September 12th.
Find more details about submitting an application on the FAC Luminata Art Grants web page. Find out more about Luminata, and volunteering with this vital community arts organization, through the FAC Luminata website, or on Facebook.
