The Ship Canal Water Quality Project is in process, with impacts coming for Fremont and our neighbors east and west. Throughout the lifecycle of the project, the Ship Canal Water Quality Project will increase and decrease in its visibility, but the Project has a new website to provide better and more up-to-date, detailed information.
The Ship Canal Water Quality Project involves construction of a 2.7-mile long, nearly 20’ wide storage tunnel, between Ballard and Wallingford. The elongated storage tank will have five drop shafts, in Ballard, East Ballard, Fremont, Queen Anne and Wallingford. A contractor is now on-board, with more information about the Project and the planning, available on the new website (click here.)
The Ship Canal Water Quality Project will, when completed, bring new art to the communities housing the storage tank. The artists selected are:
- Angie Hinojos Yusuf and Carlos Jimenez; and Barry Johnson for the Ballard site
- Katie Miller, Hugo Moro, and Shawn Parks for the East Ballard site
- Minh Carrico and Whitney Lynn for the Fremont site
- Crystal Christopherson and Kalee Nelson; and Janelle Abbott for the Wallingford site
