This Friday, April 7th, take an edifying stroll through Fremont, full of culture and fun! The Fremont First Friday Art Walk takes place from 6p – 9p, with area shops and storefronts displaying original art, many with the artist’s on-hand to talk about their creations and share information about their process. The Fremont First Friday Art Walk is a free event, providing a healthy and educational evening out for all ages!
This week, check out all the First Friday venues listed on the FFF website, but be sure to stop by:
- Portage Bay Goods – The gift shop for the thoughtful procrastinator has lovely line drawings by Taylor Hammes. Inspired by the resilient female energy that surrounds her, Hammes uses minimalistic lines to create surreal environments with graphite and paper, occasionally including photography, digital art, watercolor and recycled 3D forms. Meet Hammes, and see her original works, at Portage Bay Goods!
- Frame-Up Studios – One of Fremont’s oldest retailers, the boutique framing store welcomes Seattle-based oil painter Greg Colligan to their wall. Inspired by the work of artists Frans Hals and John Singer Sargent, Colligan prefers an alla prima technique, painting wet on wet. He uses his own photos for references, and his sujects are emotive, females characters, set in abstract environments. Colligan’s art may also be familiar to some from his work as a tattoo artist at Slave To The Needle.
- Fremont Jewelry Design – In addition to its regular, running showcase of unique jewelry art crafted by a wide selection of original artists, in April Fremont Jewelry will display works by the multi-talented Erika Laureano. At the art & jewelry trunk show on the 7th, see colorful, abstract paintings by Laureano, in addition to her gorgeous, hand-crafted jewelry that reflects her painting style.
The FFF Art Walk always offers a great opportunity for visiting neighborhood stores and seeing the latest these independent, local small businesses have on hand. This month, get a shot of color and creativity as antidote for the grey and gloom of the weather outside – step in, get dry and enjoy the art!
