The Seattle Department of Planning & Development (DPD) has extended the comment period on the update to the Seattle Comprehensive Plan to November 20th. Community feedback is still being collected, at public meetings in October and November, before finalizing the Mayor’s Recommendation and submitting it to the Seattle City Council in early 2016.
The Seattle 2035 Comprehensive Plan is intended to address expected growth in Seattle – city forecasts predict 120,000 more residents and 115,000 more jobs coming here in the next twenty years. The Plan identifies goals and policies for this future. Public feedback at these meetings will help the DPD evaluate strategies that fall within four identified core values: community, economic opportunity, environmental stewardship, and social equity.
The Plan also includes a Land Use Map that expands the boundaries in twelve urban villages – areas most expected to accommodate growth due to proximity to transit.
Please consider reviewing the Draft Plan at an upcoming open house, and giving feedback on this document. Meetings are:
- October 19th, from 6p – 8p, at Miller Community Center on Capitol Hill
- November 5th, from 6p – 8p, at the Leif Ericson Lodge in Ballard
- November 7th, from 9a – Noon, at the Filipino Community Center on MLK Way
- November 12th, from 6p – 8p, at the West Seattle Senior Center
- November 14th, from 9a – Noon, at the North Seattle College Old Cafeteria
For those unable to attend a public meeting, information on the Plan and the public process, can be seen on the Seattle 2035 project website – and opinions can be shared on-line.
