The FamilyWorks Food Bank team has been hard-at-work brainstorming ways to safely distribute food during the increase in coronavirus cases, and the colder, wetter winter weather.
In an effort to keep food bank staff and clients safe, FamilyWorks has installed an awning to cover the outdoor line. They will also distribute food at three separate indoor stations, to keep everyone dry, warm and distance, and to provide clients with more specially requested items. There will be socially-distanced stations, and a plastic curtain will also divide volunteers and clients. Finally, there will be a separate grab-and-go option for those without access to cooking facilities who need emergency ‘No-Cook’ bags.
Another adaptation that will reduce the time clients spend in line, and the number of people at the Food Bank at one time, is the Text-To-Go Food Bank Express program. Participants in this program will receive a message listing the contents of this week’s grocery box, and they can send a text message to order a personalized box of groceries – and schedule a pick-up outside of regular food bank distribution hours.
Please help those in need, and hungry, in our community, know that the FamilyWorks Food Bank is open and ready to serve. Please also consider giving to our Food Banks with non-perishable, unopened cans and packages of food, and fresh produce. FamilyWorks will also accept donations of clothing and baby items, as well as monetary donations. Find out about donation hours, and ways to give money – or hold a workplace donation drive – on the FamilyWorks website (click here.)
