Groundspeak Block Party Coming Again To Solstice Plaza – And Greater Fremont

Map of the Groundspeak Block Party at Solstice Plaza on August 18th

On Saturday, August 18th, from 11a – 3p, Groundspeak – the global geocaching leaders – will celebrate International Geocaching Day with a Block Party full of fun, family-friendly activities (many of them free,) that could attract up to 2,000 people from around the world!

Geocaching is a free hobby that unites the outdoors, exercise, technology and ingenuity together in a fun activity for individuals or groups of friends and/or families.  Using a GPS device or smartphone with a geocaching application, geocachers search for cleverly hidden containers.  More than 1.8 million geocaches are hidden in more than 185 countries world-wide, yet the global headquarters for geocaching (Groundspeak -the leader in geocache databases) sits right here at the Center of the Universe.

For the third annual Groundspeak Block Party, attendees can challenge themselves with beginner, intermediate, and advanced geocaching courses. They can also explore the Fremont neighborhood and win prizes with “Fremont Funventures”—all while swapping geocaching stories.  Those unfamiliar, and looking to explore geocaching, can learn about it as UPS devices will be available for loan – along with assistance from geocachers from around the world.

So, stop by Solstice Plaza (behind the statue of J.P. Patches and Gertrude) to enjoy the Block Party.  Even if you don’t choose to get in on the fun though, expect to see plenty of people out and about Fremont on August 18th looking for caches.
