Guidepost Vandalized – Can You Provide Eyes Or Ears On The Crime?

This time, the vandal who destroyed the iconic Fremont Guidepost left the pieces behind. Photo provided by Maque DaVis, Jan ’21

Once again, the Fremont Guidepost has been vandalized!  Unfortunately, due to COVID pandemic prevention measures, there are fewer eyes than usual on the iconic art installation.  The artist, Maque DaVis, will be going around to area businesses, as it is allowed, to ask if anyone has any information about who caused the damage this time – and to see if anything can be done to preserve the popular piece of art.

“I am sad that someone took the time to tear off the signs, but left one dangling,” DaVis reported about spotting the damage, “I found the damaged signs, and will be cleaning them up and putting them back.

“The Center-Of-The-Universe Guidepost is a tribute to the community, and the artists they support and showcase around the area.  We have one of the strongest and concentrated art communities in Seattle, the county, the country, and possibly the world, all supported by the proud Fremont community,” DaVis wrote by e-mail.

While DaVis will see to repairs and improvements, if needed, to the Sign Post, he has asked for help identifying when the vandalism took place, and who committed the crime.  If you know anything about this crime, please contact the Seattle Police Department, online or on the Non-Emergency Line at 206/625-5011, and use the #2021-901480 for this Case Report.  And thank you!!
