On Wednesday, July 4th, the annual Family 4th Of July celebration takes place at Gas Works Park, and all around Lake Union.  This year Fremont will be fully represented in the midst of it all by The Hallows Church, our newest community of worship.  Hallows Church, a sponsor of the festivities, will have a booth at the park with volunteers handing out free sunscreen.

For those who want to learn more about Hallows Church, and/or volunteer to help set-up, tear-down or work at the booth during the event, visit their website for more information.

One Reel, the non-profit producer of the Family 4th celebration, has expanded the event this year through collaborations with the Center for Wooden Boats (CWB) and the Museum Of History & Industry (MOHAI.)  This year, the broadcast of the National Anthem and the synchronized soundtrack for the fireworks display will be broadcast in both Gas Works Park and Lake Union Park – which may help spread out the crowds and the impact they’ve historically had on the Wallingford neighborhood.

Gas Works Park will open for the day-long celebration at Noon, while Lake Union Park will begin allowing people to set up at 10a.  Meanwhile, MOHAI has organized a 6-mile, 15-question Cheshiahud Challenge – a walking history trivia game to encourage people to walk around the lake during the day, to get to know the shoreline history and the neighborhoods.

For those who chose to go enjoy a day at Gas Works Park, entry is free but everyone must enter through one of the two secured gates.  Those who enter will be prohibited from bringing in a few specific items:  personal barbecues, alcohol, fireworks, pets, weapons, tent stakes, glass bottles, and knives with blades over 3” in length.

Everyone around Lake Union can enjoy the fantastic fireworks display scheduled to burst upon us at 10p, and everyone will hopefully return on the 5th of July for the Starbucks sponsored clean-up of the entire Lake Union area.

Remember though, if you do choose to spend the day – or simply stop by – Gas Works Park, swing by the Hallows Church booth and welcome them on-board!
