Please consider joining in an enjoyable and educational class, perfect for date night or a gathering for friends, all about the beautiful art of Ikebana. On Wednesday, October 4th, at 7:15p, and on Thursday, October 5th, at Noon, experienced instructor Charles Coghlan will lead classes in the Japanese art of flower arranging, imbued with Chinese and Buddhist philosophies. Held at NalandaWest, Coghlan will teach a modern approach to this ancient art, while focused on fun and relaxation.
Through his company, Hana Design, Coghlan offers classes in the Sogetsu School of Ikebana. These classes begin with reflections on Ikebana history and philosophy, and meditative poetry. Then, with hands-on instruction in design and technique, attendees can build their own beautiful Ikebana arrangement. The classes are designed with beginners in mind, as well as accommodating those with more experience.
A $20 materials fee is requested, and covers branches, flowers, tools, containers and needle point holders. Pre-registration is required, by phone at 206-789-4226 or e-mail to charles@hanadesignikebana.com, at least two days prior to the class date.
