Happening Now – A Rocket Report from the Front Lines

Things do go a little wacky here at the Center of the Universe in the time of the Solstice, and the Fremont Fair

On June 14, 2011, local developer Brian Regan reported some interesting happenings going on in the ‘hood – particularly in the area of his property at 3417 Evanston Avenue North.

Regan intends to construct a retail/office building at the intersection of 35th St N and Evanston Ave N, where an empty brick apartment complex squats, at least for a few more days…

No Bombs Here

According to his e-mail, demolition will begin on Wednesday, June 15th, but before tear down, Regan allowed the Seattle Police Department (SPD) to use the property for training exercises.

Donna O’Neal and “Jason”, of the SPD Bomb Squad, practiced at the site – and appear to have done so without needing to blow up the building…

What Are They?

As to wacky, that doesn’t quite explain fully the “Space Cadets” Regan spotted visiting local icons such as the Lenin sculpture and the Fremont Rocket, where they had an extensive photo shoot.

Lest We Forget The Art

All this being Fremont, we can expect art.  Regan also sent a photo of local artist (and landlord) Mike Peck, with a sculpture-in-progress that, reportedly, will be installed in the alley between the Fremont Starbucks and Blue C Sushi (a.k.a. the PCC alley.)

Peck has already installed several piece of art along this alley, but this one looks to be much more personal…

Read more about Peck, and his art, in a column from the North Seattle Herald-Outlook from November 2, 2005, and on Fremocentrist.com get more details about the plans Regan has for his property facing the Fremont Rocket.
