Help Replant the Ship Canal Shores of Fremont

In March/April 2010, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers removed and replanted poplars along the Lake Washington Ship Canal Photo by K. Lindsay

On Friday, November 19th, from 10a – 2p, volunteers are needed to help the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plant hundreds of plants along the north side of the Lake Washington Ship Canal.  All tools will be provided, and no experience is necessary.  Volunteers can meet at the Dinosaur Topiaries on the Burke-Gilman Trail (at North 34th St and Phinney Avenue North.)

Additionally, volunteers will be needed on Saturday, November 20th, from 10a – 2p, to do another planting along the south side of the Ship Canal.  For this effort, meet in front of the Seattle Pacific University track.  Please help restore vegetation to a district listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Sign up by contacting Anna Welland, of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (who operate the canal through the Fremont and Montlake cuts, and the Chittenden Locks) either by e-mail or at 206/789-2622 x 216.  Read about the planting project along the canal on Fremocentrist.com for April 28, 2010.
