It’s time to gather together and build a parade. On June 18th, at 3p, the Fremont Arts Council (FAC) Solstice Parade will take to the streets – and we need you to help build it.
Give all you have, or a few minutes, but step inside the FAC Powerhouse workshop (where all the fences and float bodies have appeared on Fremont Avenue) and lend a hand. Workshop hours, for the next two weeks, are:
- Mondays – Fridays from 5p – 10p
- Saturday & Sunday from Noon – 10p
Keep in mind, parade planning meetings take place every Wednesday at the Powerhouse at 7p. These meetings are only for parade planning – those who want to volunteer can stop by during workshop times, which will likely increase as parade day draws near.
Keep in mind these other, specific opportunities:
- Join the Green Hat Ensemble, and help raise money to fund the 2016 and 2017 parades. Go wild! Be a wild green creature of the jungle or forest, animal or human, or free range clown. Free your inner green man, Tarzan, or tucan. Lions, and gators, and monkeys, oh my! Follow the great big elephant. Be exuberant! Exotic! Expressive! (No masks, please, because good eye contact makes for more donors.) Sign up now to walk the parade, dress in costume and be essential to the future of the FAC Solstice Parade! Sign up at the Powerhouse, or contact volunteer@fremontartscouncil.org
- Represent B.F. Day Elementary School in the parade, and be a Pale Dragon. The school will have family dragon hat workshops, in the school. Find out more by joining the Facebook group for the B.F. Day Solstice 2016. The group will also need donations of items needed to make their dragons. If you can donate, drop off the materials at the Powerhouse or at the school. They need: toilet paper/paper towel rolls, egg cartons, craft paper/paper bags/recycling paper, acrylic paint, empty cereal boxes, and baseball caps. Find out more by contacting volunteer@fremontartscouncil.org
- Become a parade stilt walker! Take a class, taught by Allie Kerr, at the Powerhouse on Fridays, from 6p – 7:30p, and Sundays, 11a – 12:30p. Recommended for ages 13 and up, participants build balance and confidence, core strength and flexibility. Cost of the class is a suggested donation of $20. RSVP to 206/818-0217
Whatever you interest – playing homeless? building a float? providing security? registering? bringing snacks to the other volunteers? – stop by the Powerhouse before June 18th and lend a hand. You’ve got one. They need it. Please?
