On Friday, September 16th, local businesses Bitters Co. and Hub And Bespoke will participate in the global Park(ing) Day by partnering in the repurposing of a parking space on Evanston Avenue North, near 36th Street.  Stop by between 9a and 5p, check it out and, maybe, sip a slushie with them.

Expect to find a nicely appointed, comfy parking space furnished by Bitters, Fremont’s eclectic general store of handcrafted home furnishings and items made worldwide of sustainable materials.  Hub And Bespoke, our retail ‘cycle boutique’, will serve up melon slushies made by pedal power, to be provided by anyone wanting a taste!

Park(ing) Day in Seattle has been spearheaded for 2011 by Feet First, to allow artists, activists and ordinary citizens to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into public, social spaces.  The event challenges people to consider the way streets spaces get used, and the potential of these public areas.  Park(ing) Day 2010 involved more than 800 installations in more than 180 cities in 30 countries on six continents – with the project expanding in 2011 to include Fremont!

More information regarding local Park(ing) Day activities can be found on the Feet First website, and a global map of participating cities can be seen on the official Park(ing) Day website.  Also, read more about Park(ing) Day in a 2008 column from the North Seattle Herald-Outlook.
