Beginning July 1st, the Seattle Public Library (SPL) will open a month-long submission period for Seattle musicians interested in adding an original music album to ‘Playback’, an ever-expanding collection of local music curated by the SPL.

The SPL launched the ‘Playback’ collection in 2016, and it now contains 150 albums by local artists.  This collection is available for free download and streaming for SPL cardholders.  The SPL is seeking new music reflecting the rich variety of genres in the Seattle music scene.  The selection of works to add to ‘Playback’ will be done by a jury of local experts, on music and the local music scene.

All Seattle-area musicians who record or perform in the city are invited to submit an album for ‘Playback.’  The album must contain four or more songs, and have been produced within the last five years.  The albums accepted for addition to ‘Playback’ will earn the artists an honorarium of $200, and a possible invite to perform, live, at an SPL event.

Submissions to ‘Playback’ will be accepted from 9a on Sunday, July 1st through 5p on Tuesday, July 31st.  Find more information about the submissions on the SPL Information for Artist’s webpage, and learn how to submit music on the SPL.org PlaybackArtists webpage – or ask the staff about ‘Playback’ at our local, neighborhood Branch Library.
