Last Tuesday, March 26th, at the Fremont Branch of the Seattle Public Library, a squadron of King County Wastewater Treatment staffers, designers, and supporters, shared information with the public about the latest progress on the Fremont Siphon Replacement Project.
At the Open House, the Siphon project team shared the new layout for the site of a permanent structure and access panels, and two design options. A structure for odor control must be constructed, and input at a January 2013 public design workshop developed two potential options:
- a modern-looking building, with a Northwest Coastal plant palette for the landscaping and silver, vertical rod fencing
- an historic-looking building, with a Northwest Forest plant palette and black, vertical rod fencing
All the information from the Open House, including the community input received and responses by King County, and an update from 4Culture on the public art, has been posted on the project website.
For those who were unable to attend the Open House, or unwilling, but still would like to comment on the designs, input can still be given until April 12th. Comments can be submitted by e-mail at adair.muth@kingcounty.gov, or phone 206/263-7319 – or using the comment form provided on the website.
Those who want to comment/question the Fremont Siphon Replacement Project can also contact Adair Muth at 206/263-7319 or adair.muth@kingcounty.gov
Construction is currently scheduled to begin on replacement of the Fremont Siphon in mid-2014 – but public comment can best influence the project plans if received before groundbreaking commences.
