Intermittent sidewalk closures expected on the Aurora Bridge

Over the next three weeks, contractor crews working on the State Route 99/Aurora Bridge expansion joints will be closing down the sidewalk and sidewalk barrier – on each side.  The expansion joints, once installed, will allow the bridge structure to bend and flex in the event of an earthquake (see them on-line.)

Crews will intermittently close the east and west sidewalks during December, but never at the same time.  Pedestrians have access to stairs on both sides of the bridge, to make it possible for them to use the other sidewalk during closures.

This work is scheduled to be done between Monday, December 3rd and Friday, December 21st.  For more information about the State Route 99/Aurora Seismic Retrofit Project, check the Washington State Department of Transportation website.
