On Thursday, April 13th, at Nectar Lounge, hear Jenny & The Mexicats on their U.S. tour in support of their third album ‘Mar Abierto’, and supported by The Georgetown Orbits.
Led by British singer and trumpet player Jenny Ball, the Mexicats are bassist Luis Diaz ‘Icho’, flamenco guitarist Alfonso Acosta ‘Pantera’, and Cajon player David Gonzalez. “Jenny & The Mexicats is a bilingual, multicultural band known for a highly unique mix of styles and genres, including – but not limited to – cumbia, rockabilly, pop, jazz, flamenco, and folk,” according to the Musica Roots website.
“What they’ve done with their influences is create this really impressive mix of rockabilly, cumbia, jazz, flamenco, and they perform it in both English and in Spanish – very cool sound.” – NPR’s Alt Latino
With their third album, ‘Mar Abierto’, they chose to challenge themselves and create a concept album. “We are all fans of hearing an album from start to finish, where one song ends and you start humming the next track before it even begins. We have found a way to connect all the songs on this record, with a running theme throughout,” according to a band statement. “Making a conceptual album has always been a dream, and we are all excited and proud.”
Hear these two great new bands, and selections from ‘Mar Abierto’, in the casual atmosphere of Nectar, including out on the covered patio. Tickets cost $13 – $15, for the 21+ only show, with VIP seats at tables available. Purchase tickets on EventBrite.
