On Monday, January 21st, from 10a – 4p, at the Doric Temple, Fremont will honor Martin Luther King Jr. with a day-long opportunity to serve your community – and be served by your community.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?'” Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming together on the King Holiday to serve their neighbors and communities.
In Fremont, the Doric Lodge has organized a day of opportunities to participate in a Day of Service right here. The agenda set, so far, goes:
- 10a – Hot Coffee & cider in the Doric Lodge dining hall
- 10a – Noon – Volunteers assemble 144 disaster hygiene packets (done in cooperation with Fremont Baptist Church members)
- 10a – Noon – Community Service Forum, with information on area organizations and emergency preparedness. Meet representatives from Fremont Baptist Church, B.F. Day Elementary School, Doric Lodge #92, Fremont Chamber of Commerce, Fremont Neighborhood Council, The Hallows Church, History House, and College Success Foundation
- Noon – Free Lunch/Potluck
- 1:30p – Speakers, Presentations and Prize Drawing, upstairs in lodge room, featuring Ralph Weathers as Master of Ceremonies, and Commissioner Franklin Donahoe, of the Washington State Commission on African-American Affairs, as Keynote Speaker
- 2:30p – 4p – MLK Day of Service DVD and Rev. Judy Gay with a Haiti Mission Trip Slide Show
Make it a day on, not a day off! If you have any questions, or want to get involved, contact organizers Ralph and Sarah Weathers at ralph.weathers@comcast.net
