On Monday, November 9th, Stone Soup Theatre Artistic Director Maureen Miko sent out an e-mail explaining the new direction being taken by the theatrical company.  While the non-profit will continue their exceptional work with youth, through drama outreach, summer camps and the Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs Creative Advantage Program, they will no longer be producing professional theater productions at their DownStage Theater space (4029 Stone Way N), after December 2015.

Before they darken the theater, audiences can attend three FREE performances of youth productions of:

  • Peter Pan, December 15th, at 5p
  • Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown, December 16th, at 4p
  • Peter Pan, December 16th, at 5p

Giving up the theater space will allow the leadership at Stone Soup to focus and expand the non-profit school programs, and work on partnerships with other, established Seattle theatre companies.  Under the guidance of Education Director Kathya Alexander, Stone Soup will be introducing the Young Writers Program ‘What I Wore:  The Events That Shaped Me’.

While the loss of a professional theater in Fremont is difficult, it is heartening to know that Stone Soup will continue its excellent work while growing stronger.  Hopefully our loss will open an opportunity for other Seattle theater companies to consider Fremont their homes.
