King County Councilmember Balducci Condemns Violence

King County Council Chairperson Claudia Balducci condemned violence this week at the start of the Council meeting.

On February 23rd, King County Council Chairperson Claudia Balducci, who represents District#6 (on the east side,) issued a condemnation of violence against Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders.

Councilmember Balducci opened the Council meeting with condemnation of the major uptick in acts of violence against those people who have Asian and Pacific Island heritage.

“Like many,” Balducci said, “I have watched with anger and sorrow the increase in violence toward Asian and Pacific Islander Americans across the nation and locally in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Sadly, this is not new; our nation’s history is replete with similar targeting and violence.  I stand with my colleagues on the County Council against this virulent type of racism, intolerance, and xenophobia – and remain committed to working with the community to make a more just and equitable county where everyone is safe.”

Councilmember Balducci was elected by her colleagues as Chair of the King County Council.  She has previously served on the Bellevue City Council, as well as Mayor.  Find out more about her role on the County Council on the KingCounty.gov website (click here.)
