On Sunday, September 21st, at dusk, the Fremont Arts Council (FAC) will lead a lantern-lit parade, called Luminata, around one-third of Green Lake (from the Aqua Theater/Small Craft Center to the Bathhouse Theatre.)

Each year this event grows as more people discover the delight in walking, with friends or family, while carrying hand-made lanterns lit by candles, flashlights, or LED-lights.  This event also marks the Autumn Equinox – the day exactly in-between the summer solstice and the winter solstice – when Fall officially begins.

The Fremont Arts Council will have lanterns for sale, for a few hours before the procession at dusk.  However, if you want to learn how to make your own (or help making the ones to be sold,) please walk to the FAC workshop – The Powerhouse – and join one of the on-going classes.

  • Wednesday, Sep 10th from 7p – 10p, taught by Christie W.
  • Thursday, Sep 11th from 7p – 10p, taught by Angela P.
  • Tuesday, Sep 16th from 7p – 10p, taught by Christy S.
  • Wednesday, Sep 17th from 7p – 10p, taught by Christy S.
  • Thursday, Sep 18th from 7p – 10p, taught by Angela P.

The classes generally cost a $10 suggested donation, although the amount depends on the number of lanterns each student wants to make.  For more information, stop by The Powerhouse at 3940 Fremont Avenue N during workshop times.
