On Friday, June 19th, at 1p, B.F. Day Elementary School will celebrate the final day of school for the unprecedented 2019/2020 school year. Our B.F. Day community has not met for physical school since March, and on June 19th, from 1p – 2p, the kids will be given a chance, in person, to wave and shout farewell to teachers and staff they knew and depended upon over the last year.
Parents and children will be invited to drive-by, or walk-by, the school along Linden Avenue North from 1p – 2p on Friday, June 19th, allowing for waves and ‘Happy Summer’ greetings! Staff will be standing in front of the school, and walkers are encouraged to stroll along the east side of Linden going south from 41st to 39th, to maintain a safe distance, from one another and staffers. Drivers are also encouraged to drive south, down Linden Ave N. Neighbors are encouraged to avoid driving, or walking, through the area during this ‘parade’, to keep everyone safe and avoid unnecessary traffic clogs.
Face masks are required of all paraders, and social distancing is being observed. No access to the playground, school building or any restroom facilities will be allowed. As to attendance, classroom teachers will communicate directly with their families about whether or not they will be able to participate.
For neighbors who want to support our historic school, as the school year ends, don’t forget the B.F. Day PTSA Fun Run fundraiser. Last weekend, B.F. Day students ran around their neighborhoods looking for Sun Dragons. Sightings are still being tallied (if more than 1,000 sightings are logged, Principal Stan Jaskot has promised to dye his beard!,) but donations are also still being accepted at BFDayFunRun.com, to support the health and community of B.F. Day. Please consider giving!
And Happy Summer to Everyone!!
