Learn About Major City Construction Coming Soon – Starting In Ballard

This Fall, Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) will break ground on a major civic improvement project, the Ship Canal Water Quality Project, with construction starting in Ballard but slowly moving across Fremont over the next few years.

On Tuesday, September 11th, from 4p – 6p, SPU will host a community information drop-in program to share details about the immediate impacts of this huge project, and give information about the overall scope.

The Ship Canal Water Quality Project involves the building and installation of an elongated storage tunnel beneath Ballard and Fremont.  This storage is for overruns of storm water during big rains, to keep the water from filling up sewage tanks, and causing the black water from entering the waterways – with a project goal of keeping 80 million gallons of polluted water and sewage out of the Ship Canal each year!

The drop-in information session on the Ship Canal Water Quality Project on September 11th will take place in the parking lot of the SPU Ballard Operations Building, at 5300 – 24th Ave NW.
