On Monday, February 16th, from 6p – 7p, Seattle Tilth will host an information session on their Master Composter / Soil Builder training taking place this spring. Applications for this program are now being accepted, and those curious but unfamiliar with the program can learn more at the Good Shepherd Center on Feb 16th.
Become part of a select team of Seattle residents empowered to share the Master Composter / Soil Builder skills and knowledge with friends, neighbors and the community at large by attending a four-week, eight-session in-depth education experience. If you are passionate about the environment, fascinated by urban gardening practices, or anxious to make a big difference in the future of our community, this is an opportunity for you to learn more about turning garbage into gold.
When food waste is kept out of the regular garbage, and used as soil amendment, it can transform dry and dusty dirt into ‘gardener’s gold.’ The benefits of compost include healthier plants, reduction in global warming and lessening storm water pollution.
Now in its 30th year, Seattle Tilth offers the Master Composter / Soil Builder program in partnership with Seattle Public Utilities. Students participate in 28 hours of learning (including field trips) and 35 hours of volunteer outreach. Applications need to be submitted by March 14th, (bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply,) and all those interested can plan to attend the info session on Feb 16th at 6p at the Good Shepherd Center – and check the website for more details.
