Naturopathic Family Medicine suggests that everyone observe National Men’s Health Month in June by considering recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control.

Consider committing to improving one of these healthy habits:

  • Get Good Sleep:  between 7 and 9 hours is ideal for decreasing diabetes, cardiovascular disease, depression and obesity.
  • Move, Move, Move:  the recommended amount of exercise for any given adult is 150 minutes per week.  Spread your activity out during the week, and break it into smaller amounts of time during the day.
  • Eat Healthy:  eat a rainbow of fruits and veggies, as well as lean protein options (chicken, fish, beans, and eggs,) and healthy fats (olive oil, avocado, and salmon.)  Reduce alcohol, fried and fatty foods, and sugary treats.
  • Tame Stress:  a huge contributor to many acute and chronic health conditions negative stress can be calmed with integrated breathing, meditation, yoga, exercise, and by making time for relaxing activities you enjoy.
  • Quit Smoking:  tossing aside tobacco improves your health and lowers your risk of heart disease, cancer, lung disease, and other smoking-related illnesses.

Naturopathic Family Medicine, a source for wellness, offers health services for both adults and children with experienced physicians and practitioners.  However, NFM believes prevention is the best medicine.  During Men’s Health Month, consider taking steps to improve your health through care and prevention.
