Matching Fund Available For Community-Initiated Park Projects

Community groups with proposals on how to renovate, expand, or upgrade a Seattle Park are hereby invited to apply for the Major Project Challenge Fund (MPCF,) a Seattle Park District funding initiative.  Applications are due by March 30th, 2018 for up to $1.6 million per year in matching funds to be spent on a significant improvement or expansion at an existing park or facility.

An application proposal letter, of four-pages, may be submitted by any community group, outlining a project and the funding needs, due by March 30th.  The application process will prioritize community-initiated projects that have a ‘parks and recreation’ mission, encourage public access, leverage non-City funds, and are on Seattle parks property.  View complete funding criteria on-line, on a Seattle Park District .pdf – click here.

The MPCF is intended to leverage community-generated funding, to provide financial support to capital development projects, for which there is little or no City funding available.  “This funding initiative provides an avenue for us to partner with community groups to expand and improve our park and recreation facilities,” said Christopher Williams, Seattle Parks & Recreation Deputy Superintendent.  “We want to be responsive to the needs of the community today, improve access for everyone and build a strong Seattle Parks & Recreation for future generations.”

A portion of the funding will be allocated to assist diverse communities and organizations that lack resources for a match.  For more information, including a list of projects that received previous funding, visit the Seattle.gov website.  Groups in need of further assistance can contact David Graves at 206-684-7084 or david.graves@seattle.gov
