On Friday, May 4th, from 6p – 9p, the Fremont Art Walk gives a cultural and community lead-in to what looks to be a busy weekend.  Before diving in to Cinco de Mayo celebrating, and/or the opening of Boating Season, and the other activities filling this first weekend in May (Taco Libre Food Truck Challenge at Fremont Sunday Market anyone?  Visiting the opening of the Nordic Museum?) make a point of wandering the Center of the Universe to see a great selection of art and artists, and neighborhood venues.

Fremont has a selection of eclectic and creative venues showing art on Friday, May 4th.  Find the complete list on-line (click here,) but don’t forget to check out:

  • Friday Afternoon Tea – Celebrating a fun First Friday with featured artist Marianne Elliott.  As part of Mother’s (Day) Month, Elliott’s work will be on-display in her daughter’s new tea shop on Stone Way.  Check out the show, titled ‘Still Life with Action Figures’, meet the artist and view the rad painting for yourself!
  • Portage Bay Goods – It’s Art Walk Time!  And they’re bringing Seattle-based artist Stasia Burrington’s amazing prints and other goodies to the shop, now celebrating its 20th Year.  On May 4th, may the force be with you as you explore Burrington’s works among the fabulous PBG treasures.

  • Frame Up Studios – Help welcome Jordan Bye, and this wonderful exhibit.  Bye’s fascinating artwork will help arouse the senses, with an otherworldly grasp of color, geometry and movement.  While at Fremont’s longest-operating retailer, check out all the artwork and art frames on display, including a great collection of Fremont Fair posters.
  • Art F/X – See Shannon Kringen, again or for the first time, as her show continues.  The multi-media artist, from San Diego, is a self-taught photographer and abstract painter, with training in graphic design.  Kringen sees her creative expression as a tool to connect with the community and as a way to tap into a deeper wisdom within.
  • Pel Meni Dumpling Tzar – Find out about Keper, a local artist, who creates graffiti-esqe paintings, intended to create an appreciation for the urban art works.  Keper’s art is a reflection of what surrounds us on the walls of our city, fueling a hunger for colors, letters, shapes and characters.

The Fremont First Friday Art Walk brings culture to our community, and community to our culture.  Make time on May 4th for exploring and enjoying the incredible art and artists at our varied venues.  Find a map of the participating locations on-line (click here,) and work out your Walk for First Friday!
