The King County METRO transit service and Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) have partnered on the Route #40 Transit Plus Multimodal Corridor project, in an effort to increase the speed and reliability of the Route #40 bus route – and the passage of other forms of transport through this area.

Pre-COVID-19 pandemic, the Route #40, which connects Northgate and Ballard with South Lake Union, Downtown Seattle & Pioneer Square through Fremont, had one of the highest numbers of riders among all of METRO’s transit routes.  Even during the pandemic, with fewer riders overall, it remains one of METRO’s top routes serving 3,800 weekday customers along its 13.5 mile run.

Now through late 2021, METRO and SDOT are reviewing the needs in this corridor including the community priorities, to determine what improvements are most beneficial and feasible.

After this process, designs will move forward for construction in late 2023.  Now at the end of the planning phase, and heading into early design, SDOT and METRO would like feedback:

Before answering the survey, or attending a drop-in session, everyone is encouraged to watch the video on the proposed changes.  You can also learn more about the Route 40 Transit-Plus Multi-Modal Corridor project on the SDOT website, and get answers to specific questions from Route40@seattle.gov or 206/775-8731.
