METRO Updates Transit Policies & Procedures In This Pandemic Era

Transit is still available, for those traveling around Seattle, but there are some guidelines to follow. Photo by Adrian Laney, Jul ’20

Transit is still available as an option for those who must travel at this time, and METRO is asking for help keeping all riders and operators safe.  Masks or a face covering is required for all riders on METRO, as well as for everyone waiting for transit service.  METRO has also suspended fares through the month of August 2020, as well as operating with some service reductions (click here to learn more.)

Right now, other regional transit providers charge:

  • Sound Transit Express bus service (including ST Express routes operated by METRO) require a $3.25 flat fare
  • Link Trains require full fares
  • Sounder Trains require full fares

METRO service has been restored on the King County Water Taxi, Water Taxi shuttles, the First Hill Streetcar and the Via to Transit pilot service at Othello, Rainier Beach and Tukwila International Boulevard.

Riders are asked to do what they can to travel safely on all METRO Transit, including:

  • Wear a face covering
  • DO NOT travel if you are sick
  • Maintain 6 feet of distance from others
  • Board by the rear door, when able
  • Cover coughs and sneezes

METRO also asks that transit riders be aware that planned or unplanned events or crowds may cause service delays or temporary re-routes.  METRO offers a Transit Alerts service (click here to sign up,) although it is good to watch media reports for news updates, to be aware of conditions in the areas in which you are traveling.

For assistance on METRO services, call the Customer Information line at 206-553-3000 from 6a to 8p.  Unfortunately, the METRO walk-in services in Pioneer Square are currently closed, until further notice.  Of course, METRO provides plenty of information and helpful services through its website (click here.)
