While our nightclubs and bars remain closed, to protect our community from COVID-19 exposure, two are doing their best to keep their musicians in tune and practice – and keeping audiences amused with some great live shows!
Nectar Lounge has released a schedule of upcoming Virtual Concerts:
- Friday, April 24th at 8p – Kuinka, a genre-defying quartet that features four-part harmonies and eclectic instrumentation, linked by an infectious energy
- Saturday, April 25th at 8p – The High Council, a local band exploring the boundaries of melody and groove, with a blend of transcendent improvisation and earthy rock sensibilities
- Friday, May 1st at 8p – Yaima, a Cascadian folktronica duo featuring multi-instrumentalist Masaru Higasa and vocalist Pepper Proud, offering a balanced synergy of both the masculine and feminine musical expression
- Saturday, May 2nd at 8p – Vaudeville Etiquette, an alt-folk rock quartet that pushes the boundaries with grit, passion and come-hither wit, filling their timeless melodies with modern lyrics, heady harmonies, and a potent country-meets-classic-rock chemistry
Those who watch these terrific concerts are asked to donate-to-view (suggested $10 or more?,) to give a small amount of money that will be shared among the bands, the Nectar staff (now out of work,) and applied to Nectar operation costs. Great news is that New Belgium Voodoo Ranger IPA has stepped up to sponsor the Nectar Virtual Concert Series, allowing donations to be given directly to cover musicians’, staff and operations costs. In addition to Nectar, High Dive is also providing some bands the chance to play for audiences at home. Coming up from the High Dive LiveStream Concert Series:
- Friday, April 24th at 9p – The Brothers Asterhouse, an alt-rock trio whose music harkens back the glory days of Emerald City punk, with lighting lead licks and sweet acoustic plucks
- Saturday, April 25th at 6:30p – Glenn Cannon & The Damage Done, a joining of four of Seattle’s top musicians bringing a throwback rock vibe to music from multiple genres and of varied flavors
- Thursday, April 30th at 8p – Chris King & The Gutterballs, a three-piece garage twang act that infuses a propelling urgency into all of its songs
Like the Nectar Series, these concerts will raise money for the struggling musicians, the out-of-work High Dive staff, and assisting to keep the venue viable, hopefully long-enough to re-open when the COVID-19 restrictions can be safely lifted. Click here to subscribe to the High Dive YouTube Concert Channel, and consider giving more than the asked for $10 donation to assist these artists and their stages.
As Governor Inslee considers rolling back some COVID-19 ‘Stay Home, Stay Healthy’ restrictions, it is possible that gatherings such as those at music concerts could be among the last to be allowed. It is vital that we look to ways we can keep these venues viable, and support the musicians through this performance drought, to keep the music playing into the future!
