More Surprises Coming for the July First Friday Art Walk

Mosaic by Kelley Knickerbocker, on display at Fremont Jewelry Design in July 2012

On Friday, July 6th, from 6p – 9p, Fremonsters can walk the art, and enjoy the summer edition of the Fremont First Friday Art Walk.

Get in the rhythm of it with music, and live art, at the foot of Fremont’s Lenin statue – in Red Triangle – as the infamous Slowpoke Crew spin sunny disco dance tunes.  Artists Autumn Tranquilino and Angie Whitney will be creating art (for show and sale) right on the streets of Fremont.

Also look for the latest in mobile vendors – The Kippy Ding Ding boutique on wheels!  Vintage clothing, quirky gifts, and antique jewelry will be for sale in the brightly colored trailer to be parked at 509 Wines Tasting Room.  Inside, see the works of local painter Robert Blehert, whose portrait paintings implement the techniques of the Old Masters.  Also, enjoy the music of award-winning songwriter and performance artist Reggie Miles.

Work by Rebecca West, on display in July 2012 at Portage Bay Goods

As for the ever non-traditional venues of the Fremont Art Walk, be sure to visit:

At Frame-Up Studios enjoy the latest paintings by Roy Powell.  These works present a mixture of nostalgia and technology as the artist tries to document a part of Seattle that has started to slip away.  While at Frame-Up, take an opportunity to purchase one of the remaining Fremont Fair 2012 posters – framed or unframed – knowing that each sale benefits the efforts of Solid Ground to end homelessness.

The encaustic art of Emily Alice Peck can be seen at Hub And Bespoke.  For these works, Peck uses wax, heat and pigment, “the canvas [is] built of wood using plaster/fresco base, color oil pastels, acrylic, oil, milk and clay paints.  The lines are etched, and finished with layers of wax.”

Next door at High Dive enjoy $3 micro drafts and $4 wines by 14 Hands Winery while enjoying the works of Marianne Maksirisombat.  These environmentally engaging paintings, presented on traditional canvas as well as three-dimensional steel constructions, interact with the surroundings and provide a passionate exploration of vivid hues and evocative color combinations.

The gorgeous, colorful mosaics of Kelley Knickerbocker can be seen at Fremont Jewelry Design.  As light plays across the varied surfaces, the fractured intricacies invite viewers to come up close and the artist encourages an experience of the harmony of the works with the fingertips as well as the eyes.

Art work by Eli Wolff, on display at Pel'Meni Dumpling Tzar in July 2012

At Pel’Meni Dumpling Tzar (where the phrase ‘Make Art, not War’ will get a $1 discount on dumplings,) enjoy new paintings by Eli Wolff, a self-taught artist inspired by cartoons, video games, movies and all pop-culture.  Wolff’s work is intended to make his viewers laugh, or at least crack a smile.  A worthy goal during Fremont’s First Fridays…

Share those smiles while out exploring the July Art Walk – especially if you see Kevin Lyons of Yes And Video Marketing, as he makes a promotional video of our amazing art event!

As always, before venturing forth, check the latest in venues and art offerings by checking the First Friday Art Walk website – and see you on the walk, Fremont!
