Once again, the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture will host an artist in the northwest ‘Rapunzel’ tower of the Fremont Bridge this summer, and they are currently accepting applications from musicians/composers who want to serve as Artist-in-Residence. In partnership with the Seattle Department of Transportation, a practicing composer and/or musician will given an opportunity to do in-depth exploration of the bridge, its role and meaning in our community, and create music in response to their findings.
All established professional musicians/composers living in Seattle, or within 100 miles, are eligible to answer this call. Artistic diversity will be one factor considered in the selection of the artist. Artists who are well-represented or have previously received City Artist grants may not be given as high a priority as those who have not.
The entire budget for the Artist-In-Residence project is $10,000, with $5,000 allocated for the residency and $5,000 for the sound project, presentation, and documentation. The artist will receive their payment in installments, based on benchmarks established between the artist and the Office of Arts.
Applications for the Fremont Bridge Artist-In-Residence placement must be received by 11p on March 20th. Applications can be submitted through the on-line CaFE site. More information can be found on the site, or by contacting Office of Arts Public Art Project Manager (and former Bridge Artist) Kristen Ramirez at kristen.ramirez@seattle.gov or 206-615-1095.
