Over the weekend of Jan 24th – Jan 26th, NalandaWest will host a Weekend Calm-Abiding Meditation Retreat led by Mitra Tyler Dewar. Learn and practice key techniques of the meditation known as shamatha in Sanskrit, or calm-abiding.
The practice of calm-abiding provides pragmatic and accessible tools to ease the coarse distractions and busyness of the mind. Have greater focus and enjoy more contentment with practice of this meditation. Over the weekend, take time to experience and get to know your own mind in a supportive, peaceful space.
The weekend will feature teachings and guided meditations by Mitra Tyler Dewar. Mitra Tyler has been engaged in the study and practice of Buddhism since 1996, and the study of the Tibetan language one year later. Mitra Tyler joined the faculty of Nitartha Institute in 2003, and was appointed as a senior teacher in Nalandabodhi in 2005. A musician and singer, he has participated in the creation of several ‘melodized’ liturgies and ‘dharma songs.’
Those who have already had six months or more meditation experience are encouraged to join in on this weekend. Calm abiding is the basis of all other meditation practices, and its qualities can always be refreshed and further stabilized. Reserve a spot for this weekend retreat, which costs $108 for the full weekend (scholarships available) on the NalandaWest website (click here.)
