On Wednesday, June 6th, at 8p, Nectar Lounge, with Solid Sound and Patagonia, will present a screening of the documentary ‘Dirtbag:  The Legend of Fred Beckey’, with featured live performances from the original film score – and a raffle benefitting the Washington Climber’s Coalition.

This event for outdoor enthusiasts and all nature lovers (21+) showcases the story of Fred Beckey, the original American ‘dirtbag’ climber and rebel athlete.  Since the 1940s, Beckey’s stubborn quest to conquer peaks meant a solitary life, with a long trail of scorned climbing partners and lost loves left in his wake.  This exclusive documentary will tell, for the first time, about the lifestyle Beckey fearlessly pioneered as he inspired generations with his monumental first ascents and eloquent books.  Beckey shattered records with an unparalleled string of superhuman ascents, bushwhacking trails and eschewing fame, sponsors and the politics of the climbing industry, with his only obligation being to conquer the next summit.  The film combines breathtaking aerial photography, animations of Beckey’s personal journals, and rare archival footage to weave together the tapestry of this complex man’s life.  The film also includes interviews with some of the world’s greatest climbers and authors, sharing their own experiences of the individualist iconoclast, as well as attesting to his legendary stature, environmental advocacy, and impact on the alpine world.

‘Dirtbag’ Director Dave O’Leske spent the past decade filming Beckey, getting to know the mythical man in the mountains of China, North America and in his Pacific Northwest home.  The finished documentary premiered at MountainFilm in Telluride, and has since played to fervent crowds at more than 25 film festivals in 2017, winning 13 awards.

Doors to this fascinating film screening will open at 7:30p.  Tickets cost $12 in advance or $15 at the doors (as available.)  Find more information, on the raffle and bands playing the film score live, at Nectar Lounge.com, or on the ticketing page through EventBrite.com
