In a letter dated April 11th, Seattle School District Superintendent José Banda announced his assignments of new principals at some area schools – including Fremont’s own B.F. Day Elementary School.
B.F. Day’s current principal, Katie Pearl, has been reassigned to Northgate Elementary for the next school year, and Stan Jaskot will come to Fremont – starting July 1, 2014. According to a note sent out by Principal Pearl, dated April 22nd, she acknowledged some wonderful changes in her personal life – getting married and expecting a child (due in September.) The decision was the Superintendent’s, she wrote, but she had a part in the process and wants everyone to know that, ‘this is something that all parties involved feel is best for both school communities moving forward to support the grown and success of all students.’
Jaskot will be leaving Northgate Elementary to come to B.F. Day, according to Superintendent Banda, where he has been principal since 2010. According to Pearl, he has chosen to come to the B.F. Day community and he is excited to bring his great experience, support of the arts and his strong instructional leadership. Banda also mentioned Jaskot’s dedication to ‘strong community partnerships.’
A Seattle resident since 2002, Principal Jaskot served previously at Meridian Elementary in the Kent School District for five years. He also worked as a teacher and elementary school principal in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and brings over 31 years of experience in education to our school. Principal Pearl wrote, “I am also sure, with great confidence, that Mr. Jaskot is a great fit for B.F. Day.”
It will be important, for the next few months, to give our outgoing principal as much support and encouragement as possible. She acknowledged the stress that comes with change, and offered to answer further questions that anyone may have. Then, this summer, and next fall, please aid the staff and students at B.F. Day in making Principal Jaskot feel welcome and a part of the Fremont community.
