In mid- November, Kvichak Marine Industries announced a contract to build two more of their Response Boat Medium – C (RB-M C) vessels for the New York City Police Harbor Unit (NYPD.)  The first of the vessels is scheduled for delivery in April 2012, and the second in August 2012.  Kvicak has already delivered one RB-M C to the NYPD, in May 2010.

These vessels serve in search, rescue, recovery and proactive anti-terrorism patrol.  This particular design – the RB-M C – is the commercial model of the response boats Kvichak has built for the United States Coast Guard since 2008.

Designed by Camarc Design UK, the all-aluminum vessel is powered by twin Detroit Diesel engines, each with Rolls Royce Kamewa waterjets as propulsors.  This combination allows for excellent maneuverability, and a top speed exceeding 44 knots.  The overall length of the vessel will be 44’ 11”, with a draft of 3’ and fuel capacity of 495 gallons.
