This week the new and improved Fremont Guidepost was sunk back in the ground at the Center of the Universe, so we will all know how to find our way to our favorite locations – if we must leave our dear corner of quirkiness.

“You can break, take, and destroy our art, but we will just make more!”  – Maque daVis, Fremont Guidepost creator, and local artist/performer

On November 7th a woman, now identified and known by Seattle Police, broke the iconic public art piece, and threw the pieces into a waiting Audi.  Witnesses videotaped the vandalism before she drove away with the pieces.

The artist immediately responded with enthusiasm to rebuilding the piece, using some donated materials from Dunn Lumber.  On November 17th, half-a-dozen volunteers helped daVis prep pieces of the Guidepost, at the Fremont Arts Council Powerhouse, for its reinstallation this week – a Holiday present for our community.

daVis did this amazing restoration while also performing with the Fremont Players in their annual production, with the Fremont Philharmonic, of a traditional Panto.  At Hale’s Palladium, through January 6th, friends of Fremont and its public art, can see this original re-telling of ‘Puss In Boots’.  Purchase your place to see it, while available, through Brown Paper Tickets (click here.)

Sturdier than ever, and with more locations to direct visitors, the Fremont Guidepost returns – restoring our faith in art and friends to make our community the special place that it is!

Happy Holidays!!
