According to sources at the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, the Fremont 5K Fun Run & Briefcase Relay won’t be happening in 2019, on the first Friday in June. No reason has been given, so far, by Pro-Motion Events, the organizer since 1991.
The Fremont Fun Run has a long history as the kick-off for the June celebrations (the Fair, Parade, etc.) in Fremont, and a certified 5K race with “a quirky atmosphere that is true to Fremont,” according to one race organizer, Garett Slettebak. One of the rare races held in the evening, the Fremont Fun Run originally took place the night before the Fremont Fair but it has shifted, over its long history, to the first Friday of June.
The certified 5K race in Fremont has taken place in the evenings, but since its second year, a costumed Briefcase Relay Race has been run before it. Begun as a way for the Fremont Chamber to place a team in this neighborhood race, the Briefcase Relay has provided a spectacle and special, healthy celebration for the start of Fremont month each year.
Please stay tuned to Fremocentrist.com to find out if there will be another Fremont Fun Run & Briefcase Relay race held in the future. For this year, the first Friday in June will be entirely a night to share and enjoy the Fremont Art Walk! See you there!!
