On Saturday, April 30th, Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) will host a walking tour and a public meeting to gather community input on the two final design concepts for the remodel of the North Seattle Recycling and Disposal Station (a.k.a. The Dump.)

A walking tour of the perimeter of the existing facility will take place on Saturday, starting at 9:30a (and going to 11a) at the corner of North 34th St & Carr Pl North.  At Noon (until 2p) a public meeting will be held at Hamilton International Middle School (1610 N 41st St.)

Built in the mid-1960s, the existing station (located at 1350 N 34th St) requires serious upgrading and maintenance.  The remodel plans take into account sincere efforts by Seattleites to shift from pure waste disposal to more green methods – compost, recycling, and reuse – with its refuse.

Since 2008, SPU has worked on plans for a rebuild of the station, and formed a stakeholder advisory committee – made up of members from the Wallingford and Fremont communities – which provided detailed input on design concepts about the new station.  The committee has met 13 times, and reviewed an original 12 designs that they narrowed down to the final two.

Public input gathered at the community meeting on Saturday, April 30th at Hamilton, will influence SPU and the advisory committee as they select a final concept.
