Seattle Public Library (SPL) invites patrons to participate in an on-line survey from December 1st – December 21st.  The survey is intended for SPL leadership to learn and better understand how our community uses technology.

Called the IMPACT Survey, this is being coordinated by the University of Washington Information School and can be accessed by library patrons at the SPL website.  The survey reportedly takes about 10 minutes to complete.

“People use library computers and internet connections for many purposes, including finding jobs, researching health information, and staying connected with friends and family,” said City Librarian Marcellus Turner.  Turner further said that survey information will improve SPL services.

A previous, similar survey, conducted in 2011, showed that 50 percent of technology users utilized library resources for employment or career purposes.  That survey also showed that many adult patrons used library computers or internet connections for civic engagement purposes.

Currently, the SPL offers more than 1,000 computers with internet access for free use in its branches, including Fremont.  The SPL also offers an array of on-line services including homework help and free movie downloads.  For more information, call the Library at 206/386-4636, use the Ask a Librarian service or visit the Fremont Branch of Seattle Public Library at 731 N 35th.
