The hair salon and gift shop, Oohlas, which has been serving the beauty needs of Fremont since 1990, will be closing at the end of November.

Now located at 711 N 35th St, near the Fremont Branch Library, Oohlas began on Fremont Avenue, in one of the restored spaces created when the Center of the Universe was being revitalized.  Begun the same year the Fremont Troll sculpture, Oohlas was also part of the turning of the neighborhood into a successful, creative community district.

Owner Stasia Angelou wrote to customers and friends, “This shop, this team and past team members, you, this community and neighborhood have enriched my life and hopefully yours too.  We cherish the laughter, the tears, the weddings, the pregnancies, the parties, the passings, the multiple generations, the familiar faces, the locals, and the new-to-towners.

Oohla’s will close November 26th, with Angelou and the other team members moving to other locations.  For those fond of specific hair stylists from Oohlas, contact the salon to find out the new locations where each of them will be working.  Angelou will be relocating to Studio Okto in Edmonds, and three of the stylists will be moving to a new salon, Gabba Gabba Hair, coming soon to Fremont.

For the connections and exchanges of knowledge, the support when things were great & most recently when things got crazy, I thank you.” wrote Angelou on behalf of her business, Oohlas Salon, Gift & Gallery, “The warmth and trust you have offered through your loyalty will forever be a special part of my life.

Oohlas has been a dependable and supportive business in the Fremont community for thirty years, and will be sorely missed.  The loss of this friend of the community will be felt, and yet we wish the artists that worked and built the salon will find more success and friends in their new locations.
