On Monday, July 14th, at 7p, Playwrights’ Theatre will produce a dramatic reading of a draft of the play ‘Air Force Two’ by Christopher Bailey, for an audience of constructive critics at the DownStage Theater (4029 Stone Way N.) After a reading, done by talented, local performers, the audience will be asked for feedback and a response to this play-in-work.
‘Air Force Two’ takes place in the immediate aftermath of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, on November 22, 1963. On the plane, at Love Field in Dallas, Texas, Vice-President Lyndon Johnson agonizes over how to best assume power while Jackie Kennedy, still wearing her bloodied dress, detaches into her own private world. The tension mounts between Kennedy loyalists and the newly sworn president, with choices made and steps taken – foreshadowing the administration to come.
With actors Alexandra Novotny Robinson, Michael Ramquist, Laura Hanson, Raffael Boccamazzo, Asa Sholdez, and Eva Burgeson reading the play, expect to be drawn into the true history and action of ‘Air Force Two’. After the reading, participate in an organized feedback session that can help the playwright to further develop the script to the stage. Through readings such as this one, plays can be shaped, sharpened, and reinforced. Tickets to the Writer’s Group sessions are pay-what-you-will, and will be available at the door until sold out.
