This past week one of Fremont’s well-known street characters passed away, according to information given by acquaintances to Fremocentrist.com

Selvin Escoa, better known as ‘Salvador’, was the man who played djembe and drums on the sidewalk in front of Nectar Lounge and Fremart, liked to say, ‘Hello, You Beautiful People!’ to passer-by, and to admire the passing ladies. Originally from El Salvador, Selvin served in the U.S. Army and died of ‘health issues’ at age 44.

According to the report of a friend, an ambulance was called to Salvador’s apartment on Tuesday night, to take him to the hospital where he passed away the next day on October 7th.

Friends have posted signs, a guest book and left memorabilia under the tree where Salvador liked to spend time.  Friends also held an impromptu wake one night after his passing, to say farewell to this local character.
