With heavy hearts, the NalandaWest events and education center recently announced the passing of one of the friends of this close spiritual community. Damayonti Sengupta has previously managed the event center, reaching out to the surrounding neighborhood in a calm and caring manner.
Sengupta passed away peacefully, according to sangha friends and family that were with her in her final moments. She had a medical condition that had afflicted her for over two years. She had shared her diagnosis with members of the NalandaWest and Nalandabodhi community, and they have been advised that if they wish to practice in her name, they can recite the Heart Sutra and observe nature-of-mind meditation.
A bright light in many of the lives she touched, Sengupta’s dedication to her Buddhist community was constant, caring and inspiring. Her generosity and compassion were expansive and impressive. She will be deeply missed.
Her community will be celebrating Sengupta’s life, including an on-line memorial service on January 29th. Please contact NalandaWest to find out how to connect to the Zoom call.
For those who want to offer a gift in honor of Damayonti Sengupta’s life, she asked that donations be given to:
Of course, a GoFundMe has also been created to cover the cost of Sengupta’s funeral. If you can give to this, please do. Click here to find the GoFundMe page.
The loss of Sengupta is felt in many hearts around NalandaWest, and the Fremont neighborhood. Be kind, to yourself and those suffering from this deep loss.
