On Facebook, on March 7th, owner of The Way Station announced that the coffee shop on Leary Way will be closing its doors.

According to the Facebook notice, the move from the original location of the shop, in the former truck weigh station, to its current site next door raised permit issues with the City.  The coffee shop lost drive-thru access when the City refused its permission for the one the owners had installed.  “I was being forced to bring the building up to current building and energy codes to continue occupying the space,” the notice reads, “This would include replacing every window, and door.  Insulating the roof, and all of the interior walls.”

While continuing the battle with the City, the building owners delivered another demand.  The Way Station owner was told he could purchase the property, or vacate.  Unable to secure financing, for the purchase and the retrofits required by the City, plus facing a potential long-term closure (during the remodel,) the decision was made to close.

“It was a very stressful and difficult decision,” was posted on the Way Station Facebook page, although no date was given for the final day of business.
